Abstract

Phytochemicals are specific compounds produced in plants that are stored as secondary metabolites. These types of plants are used for their medicinal importance. The objective of this research was to identify the presence of various phytochemicals such as tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, terpenoids, glycosides, and saponins in plant leaves. The leaf extract was obtained from six different plant species viz., A. squamosa, L. camara, C. procera, T. peruviana, I. carnea, and A. lebbek, using the Soxhlet method, and the presence of phytochemicals was determined through chemical testing. The results indicated that all the aforementioned chemicals were present in the A. squamosa leaf extract. Thus, plants containing these secondary metabolites can be identified, and their effects on biological activities can be studied.
