Abstract

Background: There is an increasing evidence that?vitamin D plays an important role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis, but the association between vitamin D status and severity of disease has not been clearly determined. Objective: To?determine potential relationships between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] and the degree of psoriasis in a case-control study. Methods: One hundred and fifty adult patients with plaque psoriasis (cases) and 150 age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers (controls) attending the Dermatology Outpatient Clinic?were included in this case-control study. Serum 25(OH)D were?detected by chemiluminescence immunoassay. Vitamin D status was classified?as deficient was less than that in patients with mild-to-moderate disease (14.8±5.9 ng/mL vs 19.7±7.1 ng/ml; p=0.008). 25(OH) D showed?a reverse linear relationship with PASI (r=-0.58, p
