Abstract

Axion-like particles (ALPs) arise in many extensions of the Standard Model and are well motivated as dark sector mediators. Their broad mass-coupling space motivates diverse searches at the LHC. Using the full Run-2 dataset, CMS has performed comprehensive ALP searches across multiple channels photon couplings in ultra-peripheral PbPb and pp collisions, top- and dark-matter-associated production, and bosonic couplings through mono-Z signatures and exotic Higgs decays. Both prompt and displaced signatures, including merged photon and electron pairs, extend the sensitivity from the MeV scale to the multi-TeV scale. These results set the most stringent limits to date in several regions and establish a broad foundation for further exploration at the HL-LHC.
