Abstract

1 1 people, Dabbarrabbolk, Ancestors of present-day people, now congregate with the Djang at these waterholes in their lands. We have come to understand such religious belief as the 'Dreaming' although each Aboriginal language group has their own terms for similar deities and the distinctive trajectories of their creative activities.Marralwanga wanted to protect these places. These are places that people approach with great reverence. They call out to the spirits to introduce visitors and ensure they meet no harm. These places, the Djang and the spirits feature in all the ceremonies. They are the focal points of religious life.
