Abstract

Mathematics is an essential subject for developing students’ logical and analytical thinking skills, yet it is often perceived as difficult, particularly in the topic of exponents. The dominance of conventional lecture-based methods makes abstract concepts less meaningful and difficult for students to understand. This study aims to develop an Android-based learning media entitled Exponentia Saga on the topic of exponents for eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 6 Boliyohuto. The research employed the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The define stage was carried out through a needs analysis related to students’ difficulties and school facilities. The design stage involved the preparation of learning content, storylines, and game structures. The develop stage produced the media using RPG Maker MV, which was then validated by material and media experts. The disseminate stage was implemented through limited trials with eighth-grade students. Data were collected through validation questionnaires, teacher and student responses, as well as pretest–posttest evaluations. The results showed that expert validation categorized the product as very valid. Practicality tests revealed positive responses from both teachers and students with a very practical category. Furthermore, the effectiveness test indicated a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes after using Exponentia Saga. Therefore, Exponentia Saga is considered valid, practical, and effective as an Android-based learning media, and it can serve as an innovative solution to improve students’ understanding of exponents.
