Nonprofits and Innovation in Education Using Technology
Abstract
Rapid technological advancement is reshaping the global labor market, with digital skills becoming a prerequisite for the majority of future jobs. While automation is expected to transform nearly half of all occupations, its benefits are unevenly distributed, risking a deepening of existing educational and socio-economic inequalities. This paper examines the role of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in mitigating digital inequality through technology-enabled education, particularly for underserved and vulnerable communities.Drawing on global datasets, academic literature, and two case studies from Team4Tech's NGO partnerships in India and Vietnam, the paper argues that access to technology alone is insufficient to improve learning outcomes.Instead, evidence suggests that technology integrated with teacher professional development and community contextualization produces meaningful and scalable impact. The paper concludes with policy recommendations for integrating proven NGO-led EdTech models into national education frameworks and calls for longitudinal research to support evidence-based decision-making.
