Abstract
Adult Onset Hirschsprung’s Disease With Overlapping Presentation With Sigmoid Volvulus: Two Case Reports With Literature Review At Black Lion Tertiary Specialized Hospital, AAU, EthiopiaKey clinical message : Adult onset Hirschsprung’s disease, though rare, should be suspected in adults with lifelong refractory constipation or bowel obstruction mimicking sigmoid volvulus. It represents delayed diagnosis rather than true adult onset, with approximately 73-80% of patients having symptoms dating from early childhood. Contrast studies and rectal biopsy are essential for diagnosis. Soave pull-through, with either open or laparoscopic-assisted approaches for mobilization of bowel with protective ileostomy, is effective even in resource-limited setting.
