DESIGN-IT: DESIGN Framework for Applied Disruptive IT Solutions
Abstract
Disruptive information technologies such as artificial intelligence, large-scale automation, and emerging quantum systems are increasingly challenging the ability of organizations to translate research insights into operationally viable solutions. This study introduces DESIGN-IT, a structured problem solving framework that bridges scholarly rigor and practitioner realities through an iterative, evidence-driven methodology. Grounded in the information technology discipline and design science principles, the framework integrates theoretical research, empirical practitioner input, validation mechanisms, and oversight into a coherent lifecycle. Validation is demonstrated through multiple peer-reviewed studies and practitioner-engaged evaluations in cybersecurity contexts. The results show that DESIGN-IT functions as a repeatable and adaptable process rather than a static model. The framework offers researchers, practitioners, policy makers, and technology providers a transparent pathway for addressing complex, fast-evolving disruptive IT challenges.
