A Silent Culprit: Complement Dysregulation in Atypical HUS
Abstract
Introduction:Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (aHUS) is a very infrequent and serious thrombotic microangiopathy. It comprises of thrombocytopenia, acute kidney failure and microangiopathic hemolytic anemia and is mainly a result of alternative complement pathway dysregulation [1, 2] . aHUS is the result from acquired or inherited defects in complement regulatory pathways that leads to persistent endothelial damage and complement activation unlike thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) or Shiga toxin associated HUS [1, 3] .
