Abstract

Healthcare practices today require patients to receive their prescriptions and follow-up instructions and medical reports through paper documents or through digital systems that do not work together. The manual process which requires patients to use separate systems makes it hard for patients to keep track of their medication schedules and appointments and their medical history. The process results in four main problems which happen frequently to elderly patients and people with chronic conditions who need ongoing treatment. The study develops an automated medical alert system together with a digital record management system to create a platform which helps patients stick to their treatment plans while making medical information more accessible. The system allows users to save their prescriptions together with medical reports in digital form while the system creates in-app alerts for medicines and follow-up appointments based on the prescription information provided by doctors. The system provides users with alert generation capabilities which work directly through the application process because it does not require users to use thirdparty alarm systems and create their own alerts. The system uses a mobile architecture which implements React Native for its frontend development and Node.js for backend operations and Firebase for user authentication and database handling and cloud storage and notification functions. The system uses OTP-based user verification to provide secure access while it uses encrypted storage methods to protect confidential medical information. The alert engine continues to work properly because it uses two methods which include local device scheduling and cloud-based notifications. The proposed solution focuses on supporting patients rather than replacing clinical decision-making, as it does not perform diagnosis or medical prediction. The system functions as a healthcare support tool that aids patients in following their medication schedule and attending medical appointments while providing physicians with quick access to patient records during both regular checkups and emergency situations. The system provides a cost-efficient solution that can be implemented in healthcare facilities located in both urban and rural environments. The study results demonstrate that using automated in-app alerts together with digital medical record management systems effectively decreases wasted medications while enhancing patient care and enabling cost-effective simple healthcare solutions. The proposed system demonstrates strong potential for future integration with larger digital health infrastructures.
