Congenital Bronchial Atresia of Superior Segment Bronchus of Right Lower Lobe: A Rare Congenital Anomaly
Abstract
INTRODUCTIONCongenital bronchial atresia is rare anomaly characterized by lack of central airway communication and dilated mucus filled bronchus distal to site of atresia (“mucocele”). It is commonly surrounded by emphysematous lung parenchyma.1 Patients can be completely asymptomatic and can present with symptoms varying from cough, shortness of breath and recurrent chest infection.2 The treatment is usually resection of the affected segment or lobe.We report a similar case of bronchial atresia of superior segment bronchus of right lower lobe. Biportal VATS superior segmentectomy of right lower lobe was performed as treatment. This case has been reported in line with the SCARE criteria.3
