Abstract

Key Points:• Laboratory burns of Canadian surface fuels show large differences in emissions between fuel types and combustion phases.• Methane emissions from burning human-altered peat (mixed with mulch) are double those of natural peat.• Results provide new emission data for Canadian fuels, helping improve wildfire emission estimates and air quality predictions.
