Abstract

• We determine the subsolar magnetopause location from simulated SMILE-SXI images using an improved SWCX emissivity model. • Our new model is solar wind independent, constrained, simplified, and can be fitted with a range of algorithms. • The method is accurate during variable strong solar wind conditions and produces errors that meet mission requirements.
