Abstract

Agronomic characterization of M4 generation mutant lines revealed better mutants compared to Pinilisa rice in terms of days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, percent filled spikelets per panicle, number of filled spikelets per panicle, number of productive tillers, 1000-grain weight, and computed yield at 14% moisture content (MC). Mutants are shorter in height, longer in grain length, and lower in grain width than Pinilisa rice. The maturity of the mutant lines ranges from 111 to 121 days after sowing (DAS). Yield (t/ha) of mutants ranged from 4.48 to 8.18 t/ha. All mutants characterized are identified as promising lines. Correlation analysis showed a moderate linear relationship between days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, grain length, and number of filled spikelets per panicle. Grain yield has a strong linear relationship with 1000-grain weight. Keywords: induced mutation, mutation breeding, rice, wild type, yield
