Laser-diffraction grain-size data, magnetic susceptibility, carbonate content and organic matter content records for Mangshan Loess section MS2006
Abstract
The Mangshan loess section MS2006 is located on the NW edge of the Mangshan Plateau. The 59m thick S0-L1-S1 loess–pedogenic complex was continuously sampled in 36 partly overlapping, freshly dug, vertical trenches at a 5 cm resolution during a field campaign in 2006. Grain-size analysis (samples in 10 cm resolution) was performed on a Fritsch Analysette 22 laser particle sizer at the Vrije Universiteit resulting in a grain-size distribution with 56 size classes in the size range 0.15–2000 mm. Samples (5cm resolution) were analysed using a Bartington MS2 magnetic susceptibility meter at Tongji University. The carbonate content and organic matter content of the samples (10cm resolution) were analysed using a Leco TGA 601 at the Vrije Universiteit.
