The utilization of ECG-LVH criteria in hypertensive patients at Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital
Abstract
BACKGROUND: Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is a structural heart alteration commonly caused by hypertension and is associated with increased cardiovascular risk. The efficacy of ECG-based criteria, such as the Cornell product, remain underreported in identifying LVH varies across populations, and its application in Indonesia. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of the Cornell product ECG-LVH criteria with echocardiography in detecting LVH among hypertensive patients at Dr Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital (Makassar, Indonesia).METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted from January to June 2023 on 124 hypertensive patients. The patients were categorized into LVH and non-LVH groups based on echocardiographic measurements of Left Ventricular Mass Index (LVMI). ECG-LVH was determined using the Cornell product criteria, and comparisons were made between ECG-LVH and Echo-LVH findings.RESULTS: The study found a significant association between higher systolic blood pressure and the presence of concentric LVH (P
