Smart gamification: the impact of gamified environments on the development of communicative competence in English
Abstract
This article analyzes the impact of gamified strategies on English grammar teaching, based on a literature review of national, regional, and international studies. Relevant background information and a theoretical framework grounded in the constructivist approach and the communicative model are presented, highlighting the importance of gamification as an innovative tool for fostering active learning, student motivation, and the development of communicative competence. The findings reveal that gamified strategies increase motivation, autonomy, and classroom interaction, transforming learning into a dynamic and meaningful process. However, limitations were also identified related to insufficient teacher training, limited access to technology, and the need for systematic evaluation of these methodologies in diverse contexts. The discussion suggests that gamified strategies, when applied in a contextualized and adaptable manner, have the potential to significantly improve pedagogical practices and learning outcomes. However, the need for future research to address the identified gaps and develop sustainable and inclusive models is emphasized. This study contributes to the design of innovative strategies for teaching English as a foreign language, with an emphasis on meaningful and contextualized learning.
