Abstract
English abstract Underground Life and Play in a Class for Children With Impairments: Screens and Shields As Prism for Perspectives on Flourishing On the departure of a pilot study on children’s underground life and play in a class for children with impairments, this article uses screens and shields as a prism for perspectives on flourishing. The project is carried out in a class with 8 boys. Empirical data is created through participant observation in the classroom, during leisure time and breaks, and in a play experiment. Starting from an understanding of flourishing as play and participation the article uses a child cultural research perspective to explore the presence of play and underground life in the class. This is done to challenge special-pedagogical understandings of structure as unambiguous good. Inspired by posthumanism, the article uses the phenomenon of shields and screens as a prism to see how children’s participations unfold. In conclusion the article discusses how the underground life in classes with children with impairments point at arbitrary boundaries between play, flourishing and participation in schools in general.
