Abstract

English abstract Challenges for Nynorsk Learners in Digitalized Writing Instruction The present study examines the consequences of digitalization in initial literacy instruction for pupils using the official, but lesser-used written form of the language, Nynorsk. A qualitative study using analyses of video observations from beginners’ classrooms, where students use tablets during writing instruction, has been conducted. An important finding is that several of the learning resources used in Nynorsk students’ writing instruction use the majority written form of the language, Bokmål. Model texts in Bokmål influence students’ texts. Another finding is that digital writing support was of little use in writing Nynorsk. The present study provides knowledge of how the use of digital tools and resources affect the writing instruction of students using Nynorsk, and, as such, sheds light on writing instruction in lesser-used languages in the face of new technology.
