LECTURE-BASED TEACHING OF GREEN STEEL CONCEPTS
Abstract
The lecture titled “Conceptual Principles of Green Steel” at the XII COEN – 12th Engineering Congress of UFSJ explored the core concepts, technological options, and sustainability issues in green steelmaking, with a focus on hydrogen reduction and biomass reductants. Delivered online on [November 25, 2024], it aimed to inform engineering educators, researchers, and students about innovative approaches in sustainable steel production. The study demonstrates that lecture-based teaching remains a strategic pedagogical approach for conveying complex and emerging engineering topics when enhanced with interactive elements and digital resources. Guided discussions, problem-solving activities, and audiovisual materials contributed to improved engagement and conceptual understanding. Artificial intelligence–based tools were ethically and transparently employed as auxiliary resources to support bibliographic updating, content organization, language revision, and didactic visualization, without replacing scientific judgment or authorship. The lecture highlighted Brazilian initiatives as reference cases for low-carbon steel production and underscored the value of interdisciplinary collaboration and pilot projects. Overall, the findings indicate that integrating lectures with active learning strategies and applied digital tools provides a scalable approach that encourages collective progress.
