TERRITORIAL REALITIES OF THE SCHOOL HEALTH PROGRAM IN THE CITY OF BELEM, STATE OF PARÁ, BRAZILIAN AMAZON
Abstract
The School Health Program (PSE), established by Presidential Decree No. 6,286 of December 5, 2007, aims to promote the comprehensive education of students in the public basic education system, integrating the health and education sectors in previously defined territories. Proximity between schools and health units is important for the program's effective implementation, although challenges to its execution persist. This study analyzed the distribution of health units around Belém municipal schools agreed to the Health in Schools Program, using georeferencing and geostatistical techniques. Of the 38 elementary schools, 47.4% were at the ideal distance and 52.6% were not at recommended distances, with the most underserved schools located in districts with the most precarious basic services. The distances between schools and health units did not meet the program's recommended standards, and the most exposed schools were in districts with the most precarious basic services. It is hoped that the visibility afforded to the city by the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference will leave a lasting impact on public policy in the region.
