Abstract

This article analyzes public cultural management in the city of Praia Grande, focusing on the lack of incentives aimed at amateur theater groups. Amateur theater plays a fundamental role in promoting local culture, serving as a space for artistic expression, cultural education, and the strengthening of community identity. However, the absence of effective public policies, combined with the scarcity of financial, structural, and institutional support, has hindered the continuity, maintenance, and growth of these cultural initiatives in the municipality. This qualitative research is based on bibliographic and documentary analysis, using cultural legislation, public plans and programs, funding calls, and institutional data from the Municipal Department of Culture and Tourism of Praia Grande as sources. The study discusses the social relevance of amateur theater, the main challenges faced by local theater groups, and proposes possible public cultural management strategies to strengthen this artistic practice, based on the analysis of successful experiences developed in other Brazilian municipalities.
