A Simple Method of Estimating Dielectric Properties for the Medium-Frequency Band
Abstract
This study proposes a simple and reproducible method for estimating the relative permittivity and conductivity of materials with relatively high dielectric properties' such as biological tissues' in the medium-frequency (MF) band. In the proposed method' a measurement probe is pressed against the surface of the measurement under test to acquire the complex impedance between electrodes. The dielectric properties are then estimated through an inverse approach by comparing the measured impedance with an impedance distribution chart generated via numerical simulations. Experiments using deionized water and porcine liver demonstrated good agreement between the estimated and reference values reported in the literature, with coefficients of variation about 5%, indicating high reproducibility. The proposed method has the potential to serve as an effective technique for measuring electrical properties in the MF band.
