Abstract

Indoor infrared mobile optical wireless communication (OWC) is experimentally demonstrated, where a visible light camera detects the position of a transceiver consisting of an infrared LED and a photodiode receiver, and an opposite infrared LED tracks the transceiver. Although an infrared LED is invisible to human eyes, an object detection DNN-based visible light camera detects only the infrared LED. Training two classes, infrared and white LED images improved average precision of infrared LED detection. Infrared mobile OWC between a tracking LED and a moving photodiode receiver is demonstrated with 528-bit/s pulse position modulation up to movement speeds of 1.0 m/s.
