Abstract

This paper proposes a resistor-weighted curvature-corrected bandgap reference (RWCC-BGR) addressing key limitations of the conventional sub-1 V Banba BGR. The traditional design suffers from issues such as the need for large resistors that carry a fraction of complementary to absolute temperature (CTAT) current, which leads to increased area. The RWCC-BGR replaces large resistors with a compact weighted resistor network, effectively balancing PTAT and CTAT components. This modification enables precise temperature compensation, ensuring a stable reference voltage across a wide range of temperatures and supply voltages. A prototype was fabricated in 180 nm standard CMOS technology occupying an area of 0.024 mm$^{2}$. The operation of RWCC-BGR is validated over 15 chips for robust testing, which shows the measured reference voltage of around 201 mV under 1.1 V supply, with an average temperature coefficient (TC) of 29 ppm/$^\circ$C over a temperature range from -40$^\circ$C to 120$^\circ$C (measured from 20$^\circ$C to 120$^\circ$C), while consuming 294$\mu$W power.
