Application of modern simulation technologies in fire training: effectiveness of virtual combat training
Abstract
The article comprehensively examines the widespread use of modern simulation technologies in the fire training system for law enforcement officers as one of the key elements in developing their professional competence in conditions of heightened security threats. It is noted that traditional forms of shooting training, despite their importance, do not always allow for the full reproduction of the dynamics of real combat or operational situations, while simulation technologies provide a high level of proximity to real conditions of task performance. The paper discusses the main types of simulators used in firearms training, including stationary, mobile and interactive systems, as well as modern VR and AR complexes. Their functional capabilities allow for the simulation of various tactical scenarios: firing in conditions of limited visibility, in enclosed spaces, while moving, as part of a unit, or under time constraints. Particular emphasis is placed on the ability to repeatedly practise complex elements without risk to the life and health of personnel, as well as with significantly lower consumption of ammunition and material resources. The use of simulation technologies contributes to the development of not only practical shooting skills, but also tactical thinking, the ability to quickly make informed decisions, coordinate actions with other employees, and act effectively under psychological pressure and stress. An important role is played by the integration of interactive modules and augmented reality systems, which allow training scenarios to be adapted to the level of training of cadets and students, to objectively control training parameters and to ensure multi-user interaction. An analysis of the implementation of such technologies in military and law enforcement training institutions shows an increase in the effectiveness of the educational process, optimisation of resource use, and the formation of more comprehensive training for personnel. Promising areas for further development include the integration of artificial intelligence elements to create dynamic training scenarios, automated assessment of training levels, and in-depth development of the physical and psychological qualities of law enforcement officers, which overall makes VR and AR technologies an important tool for modernising the military education and combat training system.
