Abstract

: The article analyzes the perception of idiomaticity and machine translation acceptability thresholds in customer service. A corpus of fifty sentences was first translated from English into Spanish using a neural machine translation system. Then two groups of translation students reviewed this corpus and evaluated the naturalness of the translations, providing their answers in a two-question form which gathered both qualitative and quantitative data. The overall results show the confidence in the results of machine translation and how idiomaticity is subject to variable perception.
