Abstract

Pietro Aretino’s voice was silenced in our country from the Golden Age until de beginning of the 20th century, when Joaquín López Barbadillo emerged as the key figure of the Italian author’s revival by translating the Ragionamento. The vast temporal distance –of almost four centuries– between the original and La vida de las putas –the third part of the dialogue– complicates the translation process, as it magnifies the already existing cultural and linguistic difference between the two texts. Consequently, the aim of this paper is to determine to what extent the prevailing ideology and the translatological norms in vogue in Spain at the time infiltrate the TT done by the translator from Cádiz.
