Abstract

Fix a positive integer π‘˜.Let 𝑅 π‘˜ be a higher order Riesz transform of order π‘˜ on ℝ 𝑑 and let 𝑅 𝑑 π‘˜ , 𝑑 > 0, be the corresponding truncated Riesz transform.We study the relation between βˆ₯𝑅 π‘˜ 𝑓 βˆ₯ 𝐿 𝑝 (ℝ 𝑑 ) and βˆ₯𝑅 𝑑 π‘˜ 𝑓 βˆ₯ 𝐿 𝑝 (ℝ 𝑑 ) for 𝑝 = 1, 𝑝 = ∞, and 𝑝 = 2.We do this by analyzing the factorization operator 𝑀 𝑑 π‘˜ defined by the relationThe operator 𝑀 𝑑 π‘˜ is a convolution operator associated with an 𝐿 1 radial kernel 𝑏 𝑑 π‘˜,𝑑 (π‘₯) = 𝑑 -𝑑 𝑏 π‘˜,𝑑 (π‘₯/𝑑), where 𝑏 π‘˜,𝑑 (π‘₯) := 𝑏 1 π‘˜,𝑑 (π‘₯).We prove that 𝑏 π‘˜,𝑑 β©Ύ 0 only for π‘˜ = 1, 2. We also show that for fixed π‘˜ β©Ύ 3,This contrasts with the cases π‘˜ = 1, 2, where it is known that βˆ₯𝑏 π‘˜,𝑑 βˆ₯ 𝐿 1 (ℝ 𝑑 ) = 1.Finally, we show that for any positive integer π‘˜, the Fourier transform of 𝑏 π‘˜,𝑑 is bounded in absolute value by 1.This implies the contractive estimateand an analogous estimate for general singular integrals with smooth kernels for radial input functions 𝑓 .
