Meningkatkan Keterampilan Membatik Dengan Teknik Ecoprint Bagi Siswa Disabilitas Rungu Menggunakan Metode Explicit instruction
Abstract
This study aimed to improve the ecoprint batik skills of students with hearing impairment through the application of the explicit instruction method in Grade X at SLB Negeri Muara Bulian. The problem addressed in this study was the low level of students’ vocational skills in ecoprint batik, which was caused by limited understanding of tools, materials, and procedural steps, as well as the use of less structured teaching methods. This research employed classroom action research conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The participants were four students with hearing impairment. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and performance tests, and were analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis and simple quantitative analysis based on performance achievement percentages. The results showed a gradual improvement in students’ ecoprint batik skills from the initial condition to Cycle I and further increased significantly in Cycle II. All students demonstrated better understanding of tools and materials, improved accuracy in following work procedures, and greater independence in completing ecoprint batik tasks. By the end of Cycle II, all students achieved the learning mastery criteria. The findings indicate that the explicit instruction method is effective in improving vocational skills in ecoprint batik for students with hearing impairment and supports their active participation, independence, and learning motivation. Therefore, explicit instruction can be recommended as an effective instructional approach for vocational skill learning in special education settings.
