Meningkatkan Hasil Pembelajaran IPA Materi Metamorfosis Kupu-Kupu melalui Metode Sosiodrama pada Siswa Disabilitas Intelektual Ringan Kelas VII
Abstract
This study aimed to improve learning outcomes in Natural Science on the topic of butterfly metamorphosis among students with mild intellectual disabilities through the implementation of the sociodrama method. The research employed a Classroom Action Research design using a mixed-methods approach. Qualitative data were collected through classroom observations to describe the learning process and student engagement, while quantitative data were obtained through oral tests to measure changes in students’ learning outcomes. The participants consisted of four seventh-grade students with mild intellectual disabilities at SLB Negeri Muara Bulian. The research was conducted in two cycles, each involving planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The sociodrama method was applied by engaging students in role-playing activities representing the stages of butterfly metamorphosis. The findings indicated a gradual improvement in students’ understanding and learning outcomes from the pre-cycle stage to Cycle I and Cycle II. Students demonstrated better comprehension of the sequence of metamorphosis stages, increased participation, and greater confidence during the learning process. By the end of Cycle II, all students achieved the predetermined learning mastery criteria. In conclusion, the sociodrama method proved effective in enhancing science learning outcomes for students with mild intellectual disabilities by providing concrete, meaningful, and engaging learning experiences. This method can be considered an alternative instructional strategy for teaching process-based science concepts in special education settings.
