Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study is to prepare an environmental impact assessment regarding a GNA thermoelectric plant, thus raising relevant environmental and social issues related to the project. Method: The methodology adopted for this research comes from technical books aimed at preparing environmental impact assessment reports. Results and Discussion: The results highlight the significant environmental and social impacts caused by the investment, such as greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, thermal water impacts, and job creation. It also emphasizes the large number of alternatives and mitigation measures applicable to minimize both the damages already caused and those that may occur in the future. Originality/Value: This study explores a thermoelectric plant that is scarcely addressed in the literature, making it an original work with relevance for the Porto do Açu – RJ region, as well as for researchers focused on environmental issues.
