Consumer Behavior Regarding Access to Environmental Information in the Era of Sustainable Consumption
Abstract
Objective: The objective of this study is to analyze the impact of new media on consumer behavior in light of the legal framework for the protection of a sustainable environment. Theoretical Framework: As a theoretical framework, this article is based on extensive bibliography, both from the legal field and interdisciplinary sources, as well as news about the situation, especially those available on the World Wide Web (WWB). Method: This research primarily used the deductive method, attempting to clarify, at least reasonably, the issues related to sustainable consumption in relation to corporate behavior. To achieve these objectives, the topics that gave rise to this research will be addressed through a brief explanation, including the transformation of the economy resulting from globalization, the legal instruments that provided guidelines on sustainable consumption, and consumer behavior as the holder of the power to choose brands and products. Results and Discussion: The assessment of the value of the principles governing green and sustainable consumption in relation to the consumer's power of choice based on access to environmental information was paramount in the analysis of the proposed study. This fact highlighted that new media allows consumers to quickly identify the impact of their purchases on today's consumer society. Research Implications: This research highlighted consumer behavior regarding access to environmental information through new media, considering the criteria of green consumption and sustainable consumption. Originality/Value: This study contributes to both legal and multidisciplinary science by analyzing, in light of international and national legal instruments, the legal and social implications, as well as the valuation and incidence of constitutional principles of a balanced environment in the face of the interactions of a consumer society.
