Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study is to analyze and perform thermodynamic modeling of PVC pipes installed in equipment for filling raw biogas. Theoretical Framework: This section presents the main concepts and theories that underpin the research. Of particular note are the fundamentals of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and mathematical methods that complement the study, thus providing a solid basis for understanding the context of the investigation. Method: The methodology adopted for this research involves the use of the NUT effectiveness method to thermodynamically analyze the behavior of a material considered a poor conductor and compare it to materials that are good conductors. Data collection was performed using REFPROP software and practical data on the operation of the equipment built for filling biogas in natura. Results and Discussion: The results obtained revealed that despite the use of a material that is considered a poor conductor, its thickness contributed to the effectiveness of heat exchange and the successful operation of the equipment. When compared to materials that are good conductors, the results were similar. Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of this research are discussed, providing valuable insights into how the results can be applied in practice and influencing decision-making for the improvement and development of equipment for bottling raw biogas. In addition, it impacts small and medium-sized rural producers, as it demonstrates that it is possible to use the technology in the field. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature, as it combines theory and practice in a topic that has been little studied and explored in depth in the literature, namely, the bottling of raw biogas. The relevance and value of this research are further evidenced after the practical tests were carried out.
