Eric Bulatov’s language of self-description: reconstruction attempt
Abstract
The article reconstructs the language of self-description of the artist E. Bulatov, identifies its key concepts and describes the connections between them. Particular attention is paid to the artist’s central problem associated with the search for balance between different types of space, which can only be counterbalanced by the word brought into the picture. The word in Bulatov is simultaneously instrumental, subjective and performative. The connection of the word with the pole of the subject, and not with the pole of the object, determines a complex set of functions that are associated with the word: this is the function of self-reference, the function of dissolution in action, the function of representing the antinomy of consciousness.
