Abstract

MOSAIC is a response to the 2025 AIAA’s Request for Proposal (RFP) for a mission to map and learn more about Mars’ environment and landscape. The mission was created with intention of mapping at least 75% of Mars’ surface whilst also performing scientific data collection of the environment so that landing sites may be obtained for human missions on Mars. MOASIC utilizes a two phase mission structure where the first stage consists of an orbiter circling Mars and mapping the surface, and the second stage lands two probes on the surface. This mission contains technology and instrumentation of precedent viability whilst also using technology that is on the horizon of mainstream usage. The budget of MOSAIC will fall under one billion dollars and the mission shall wrap up initial data collection in the 2030s. The design was submitted to the 2025 AIAA Undergraduate Space Design Competition and placed 2nd overall.
