Abstract

Human exploration on Mars requires detailed knowledge of the planet's surface and subsurface conditions. This paper presents the design of an orbiter capable of collecting mission critical information that will enable humans to explore Mars, such as water content, presence of sand dunes, caves, altitude and minerals on the surface and subsurface of Mars. The orbiter uses four different instruments in the payload: a radar, a spectroscope, an imaging device, and an altimeter. The orbiter would be capable of relaying all the information to Earth ground stations without any data losses, covering over 75% of the surface of Mars by 2033.
