Detonation Wave Formation in a Modular Turbulator Using Hydrogen-Oxygen Mixtures for Industrial Safety
Abstract
This study investigates the deflagration-to-detonation transition (DDT) in a modular detonation tube equipped with interchangeable turbulator obstacles using a stoichiometric hydrogen-oxygen mixture. The focus is to characterize how varying the blockage ratio and obstacle geometry in the pre-detonation section affects the DDT process. Comparison with Chapman-Jouguet (CJ) theory relates the experimentally observed detonation characteristics, such as pressure spikes and wave speeds, to expected theoretical behavior, providing insight into the validity and efficiency of the detonation process. Comparisons between hydrogen–oxygen mixtures at 760 Torr and 350 Torr are made to better understand how blockage ratio and obstacle geometry affect the DDT process.
