Abstract

This study investigates the flow field resulting from a transverse jet injected into a hypersonic boundary layer over a 7-degree half-angle cone in the Boeing/AFOSR Mach-6 Quiet Tunnel (BAM6QT). The objective was to analyze the jet–crossflow interaction using schlieren imaging and a traversed micro-pitot array. Air was injected through a sonic orifice normal to the surface into Mach 6 flow. Data was acquired across several test conditions with various unit Reynolds numbers, mass flow rates, and pitot-array positions. Schlieren images revealed significant pressure perturbations propagating upstream and downstream from the jet-induced shock structure. Kulites mounted on the micro-pitot traverse rake potentially detected low frequency perturbations shed from the recompression shock and jet normal shock.
