Abstract

With the growing demand for fresh graduates with satellite-related experience in Singapore, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) introduced the Space Technology Specialization (STS) for ECE students. STS aims to equip students with satellite and aerospace-related industrial knowledge. Students enrolled in STS are required to take core courses, EE3105 (“Beyond Sky”), and complete a capstone design or research project. In addition, STS contains a set of technical electives that covers embedded systems, power electronics, microwave engineering, machine learning, and control theory. Students may select two to four technical electives to fulfil their STS requirement, based on their interests. STS was introduced in the academic year 2023-2024. In this paper, STS in NUS ECE is briefly introduced, as well as its core course, EE3105 Beyond Sky – New Space Technology and Application. Pedagogical approaches that have been applied in EE3105 to enhance the project-based learning experience for students are discussed as well.
