Abstract

Rotating detonation engines (RDEs) forefront as a promising implementation of pressure gain combustion (PGC) technology for next generation aerospace propulsion systems due to their higher thermal efficiency and lower emission potential in comparison to the state-of-theart systems based on constant pressure combustion. However, their practical application is still limited due to various reasons including the stability issues that arise from the complex interaction of chamber geometry, injection dynamics, and detonation wave behavior. The current study investigates the impact of varying inner body configurations on RDE operational stability through a series of reactive computational fluid dynamics simulations. By correlating oscillation frequencies of the incoming mixture with geometric features of the combustion chamber, the research identifies key factors influencing engine performance and stability. This approach not only improves the understanding of RDE behavior but also provides guidelines for optimizing design to ensure reliable operation
