Abstract

Superiority in advanced defense systems depends on the rapid insertion of new technologies and innovations—processes that today are often expensive and time-consuming. Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) offers a new opportunity to explore disruptive innovations quickly and cost-effectively, helping us stay ahead of our competitors. In this work, we demonstrate the use of GenAI to automatically synthesize software controllers, such as those that govern the flight of an aircraft or missile. This represents a foundational capability, enabling software-defined physical behavior that can outperform adversaries. We believe this technology could have enormous impact, provided we manage known GenAI challenges (e.g., hallucinations) and ensure the safety and performance of the synthesized controllers.
