Abstract

A procedure has been developed to determine the safe perimeter or `safe zone' for typical shelters given the shelter geometry, a payload, and a tolerable overpressure. The procedure is based on high-fidelity runs that compute the maximum overpressure in a region specified by the user for an arbitrary number of detonation locations. The number of runs are minimized by employing an adaptive tetrahedral mesh that focuses on the spatial region of interest. The runs may be carried out in parallel, making it possible to determine safe perimeters in a matter of hours. The results obtained show that the procedure is a viable tool to determine where to colocate nets to impede the entry or when/where to neutralize small drones in order to secure shelters.
