WITHDRAWN: A System-of-Systems Architecting Methodology and Architectural Framework for Evolving Lunar Base Design and Decision-Making
Abstract
The global resurgence in Lunar and Martian plans calls for a permanent human presence on the lunar surface, capable of sustaining humans and reaching stakeholder objectives. However, there is no currently established design process, development framework, or decision-making platform for lunar bases. This research addresses this gap by utilizing system-of-systems (SoS) principles, engineering, and architecting to build a lunar base capable of growth, evolution, and adaptation to new and changing objectives. As this is all done on the lunar surface, where the harsh environment poses constraints on the base, principles from city master-planning are deeply entrenched in the proposed methodology to ground the lunar base physical layout and spatial description. The crux of this research quantifies SoS interrelationship parameters (such as interface and interoperability descriptions) and combines SoSE/A with city planning to ultimately master plan the lunar base architecture, design, and evolution phases.
