Effect of Aspect Ratio on Aerodynamic Characteristics of Wavy Leading-Edge Wing
Abstract
This study investigates the aerodynamic characteristics of baseline and wavy leading-edge (WLE) wings by wake measurement. The experiments were performed by a low-speed wind tunnel with a 1500 mm × 1500 mm test section, using six-component force measurements and wake surveys. The chord length of all wings was fixed at 200 mm, and tests were carried out at a freestream velocity of 15 m/s, corresponding to a Reynolds number of 195,000 respectively. The objective is to clarify the effects of leading-edge modifications and aspect ratio on lift, drag, and wake structures. The introduction of wavy leading edges appears to offer certain aerodynamic benefits depending on the aspect ratio, particularly from the velocity vector fields and total pressure loss distributions, the WLE wing showed a tendency to suppress the spread and loss of flow after stall, especially at AR = 3.0.
