Development of a Solid-State High-Temperature Superconducting Rectifier with an Air-Core Mutual Inductor
Abstract
High-temperature superconducting (HTS) rectifiers offer an efficient method for rectifying high DC currents into superconducting circuits, thereby generating strong magnetic fields. The popular magnetic (Jc(B)) switching method can take hours to charge practical loads, making it impractical for applications where charging speed is vital, such as fault recovery. Here, we provide FET-based switching in a solid-state half-wave HTS rectifier prototype with an air-core mutual inductor pair. This technique enables reduced charging times for practical high-field magnets by generating a much larger voltage across the load.
