Aerodynamic Mesh-Adaptive Simulations of the Common Research Model - High Lift Wind Tunnel Experiment
Abstract
This paper presents numerical simulations of the wind tunnel experiment of the High-Lift Common Research Model full-span model in the ONERA F1 pressurized low-speed wind tunnel. Some simulations were carried out including a representation of the wind tunnel setup, namely the support strut and the solid walls of the test section, while other simulations were carried out in free-air. Comparing both sets of simulations enables validating the wind-tunnel wall and support interference corrections, which were previously derived using a combination of lower fidelity method and experimental data. The simulations relied on RANS modeling, using second order numerical scheme coupled with anisotropic mesh adaptation. The turbulence modeling uses a new version of the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model, therefore extending previously published similar work carried out with the baseline SA model. This paper therefore contributes to a better understanding of the validation data used in the 5th High-Lift Prediction Workshop.
