Abstract

The work consisted of an innovative technology aimed at revolutionizing future space missions by enabling in-space 3D printing using locally sourced materials. This advanced solution focuses on creating an automated system to recycle polymers in space and transform them into high-quality 3D printing filaments. By implementing this method, the technology addresses critical needs, such as on-site resource utilization, sustainability, on-demand manufacturing, and resource efficiency. This approach not only reduces dependency on materials transported from Earth but also enhances the overall sustainability and operational flexibility of space missions. As a result, it has the potential to significantly enhance space exploration capabilities, paving the way for more sustainable and efficient long-term missions.
