Digital Conversion of Cow Dung and Biogas Distribution in Deregulated Energy Markets
Abstract
A digital framework for the collection and conversion of cow dung towards biogas production and intelligent distribution is developed, digitized and integrated with a patent-pending EnerghxPlus platform. Using a newly developed and constructed hydrothermal carbonization–anaerobic digestion (HTC–AD) research facility at the University of Lagos, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven energy forecasting, and sequential multi-output biogas allocation methods are developed for the distribution of biogas to residential and commercial energy consumers in the Canadian, United States and Nigerian deregulated energy markets. The framework consolidates the entire biomass-to-energy value chain into a single microservice architecture capable of supporting decision-making for building envelopes, urban mobility applications, and renewable energy planning. Building on the existing biomass microservice, the upgraded capabilities integrate four core modules comprising: (1) a biomass supply-chain; (2) an HTC–AD process model; (3) machine learning predictive engines and (4) a recommendation engine. It is anticipated that the deployed application programming interface (API) of this framework will improve energy reliability, enhances resource utilization, and reduces supply–demand mismatch compared with conventional single-output or manually operated biomass systems.
