Experimental Analysis of Quasi-2D Detonations at Elevated Initial Pressures
Abstract
This work describes the analysis of hydrocarbon detonations at elevated initial pressure once decoupled from other factors. This was conducted with the use of a thin detonation tube to obtain quasi 2D detonations. As the rise of detonation-based engine systems continues, the need for fundamental quantitative understanding increases in turn. Prior studies have examined the effects of elevated initial pressure but have been unable to reconcile the indirect factors caused by pressure. Trials were conducted at stoichiometric conditions with methane and oxygen. The detonation travels through a 2mm channel, passing by a high-speed optics setup. The data is processed and statistically analyzed along with computationally found parameters.
